Make a great fabric apple as you learn this easy and accurate technique.

Course Content

Double Reverse Appliqué is a very accurate and easy raw-edge applique technique. In this class you'll learn the technique, you'll make the awesome apple shown above, and you'll learn how to make your own patterns.

The class is primarily composed of short videos. Because they're segmented and well-labeled it's very easy to find exactly what you need.

You have immediate and indefinite access to the class as soon as you enroll. You'll have plenty of access to me, too, via email.

Supply List

Equipment:
Sewing machine that can lower its feed dogs
Presser foot for free motion (darning, big foot, etc.)
Light box (This is integral to the procedure. A window on a sunny day can work in a pinch, but a light box makes things much easier.)
Sharp embroidery scissors (the little ones that are sharp all the way to the tip)
      Paper scissors
      General sewing supplies
      Fat highlighter
      Black Sharpie, regular tip
5+ colored pencils, each a different color

For pattern making:
A favorite color photo, with strong light/dark contrasts. An 8 x 10 is best.
      Tracing paper
      Pencil and eraser

Fabrics, threads, and such:

Sulky Totally Stable (or other lightweight iron-on stabilizer that can be torn away later)
Thin white fabric (like muslin) for the base, ~ 14 x 16
Small amounts of yellow, peach, coral and red fabrics, along with some rust and brown. Plus two background colors, each ~ 14 x 16. After enrollment the pattern and full color placement chart will be downloadable. Lesson One covers fabric selection in detail.
       Clear thread
Medium gray thread (OR threads that loosely match your fabrics)

What sewing skills do I need?

This technique works best with free motion sewing, although a high level of skill is not needed. It is also possible to complete this project with a conventional sewing set up, although it will take longer.

What computer skills do I need?

You'll need to save the URL (online address) for the class, so you can return to it. If you'd like to share photos with the class, and I hope you will, you'll need to be able to save your photo as a jpg and upload it. (It's super easy, once you have your photo.)

Are there any special requirements for my sewing machine?

It should be capable of doing free motion sewing: lowered feed dogs and an appropriate presser foot.

How much interaction is there with the teacher?

You can post your questions and comments - and photos - in the comment section at the end of each lesson. I'll check my email AT LEAST once in the morning and once again in the evening.

Will I miss content if I'm away, or in a different time zone?

Absolutely not. The class is completely self-paced.

How long do I have access to the course?

A LONG time. Once you've enrolled and paid, you'll have access to the course material for as long as it exists.
